A Lesson in Self Motivation and Inspiration from One of the World's Greatest Runners

Printer-Friendly Format

David Horton is one of the most prolific runners of our modern times. And a fun loving guy at that!

I took this interview from my www.TrailRunningSecrets.com website, because I think it speaks to more than just runners. In the interview, we cover everything from finding inspiration, some of his scariest moments in the woods, to how he teaches his students to enjoy running and learn from its lessons for success in the other realms of life.

He's a professor, co-author of "Quest for Adventure" and star of the film "The Runner". I was lucky enough to get him on the phone to conduct this interview between classes, running and eating. Three of his favorite things!

I suggest you listen in even if you're not a runner, nor ever plan to be one. There are lessons here that trancend the sport...

About David: In his lifetime, he has run over 100 race starts and it is probably even more than that by now. His cumulative mileage exceeds 70,000 miles. He has served as a race director of the well known Mountain Masochist 50 Mile Trail Race. In between all of that, he has received a doctorate in education.

"First Off, I love your newsletter! It always has some pretty cool tips and its definitely not like most of the emails I get! Its so fun to see an email from someone other than my Bank with my monthly statement! Your Healthy Travel newsletter could not have come at a better time! I just booked my flight for Ireland! So being healthy is one of my major concerns especially being on a long flight! I look forward to the next couple of segments on Healthy Travel and it never crossed my mind that I should drink extra water the couple of days before my trip! Thanks for all your helpful ideas- it has helped motivate me to get back in shape!"

"Hi Kevin, Your idea of counting exercise activity in terms of "hours per week" versus "days per week" changes my whole outlook. It is a wonderful concept. I am going to step it into action right away. Keep on! You are terrific!"
