| FDA Says Cloned Meat is Safe to Eat |
| By Kevin Gianni |
| Friday, Jan 18, 2008 06:47 |
| Here's a recent article I wrote about the cloning of meat and milk from cows, pigs and goats.
—-
January 17, 2008 - Meat eaters in the US may be in for a shock.
In the most detailed "risk assessment" on the safety of cloned foods to date, The FDA has reported that meat and milk from bovine, swine and goat clones is safe for human consumption.
This conclusion was derived from a comprehensive "risk assessment" study conducted by the FDA and obtained by the Washington Post.
A statement taken from the 968 page FDA report in regard to bovine products states, "we conclude that there is no reason to expect that food from bovine clones would pose additional food safety risks compared with the same products derived from conventionally-bred cattle."
On January 16th, A day after the report by the Post was released, the US Department of Agriculture called on farmers to voluntarily keep cloned animals out of the food chain until the idea of cloned meat in the marketplace gains wider acceptance and reach. This "voluntary moratorium" has been in effect since close to the beginning of the decade.
Bruce I. Knight, Under Secretary for Marketing and Regulatory Programs at the USDA, in a MSN news report says "there are only about 600 animal clones in the United States and most of these are breeding animals. 'So few clones will ever arrive at the marketplace.'"
Though the relatively small number of cloned animals in the US may seem comforting for religious groups, activists and cloning opponents, there is evidence that cloned meat is already in our supermarkets. The Washington Post reported, "Executives from the nation's major cattle cloning companies conceded yesterday that they have not been able to keep track of how many offspring of clones have entered the food supply, despite a years-old request by the FDA to keep them off the market pending completion of the agency's safety report."
The issue of cloned meat in the food supply has been contested much longer than the "years-old" request. A 2003 New York Times article reports, "Donald Coover of Galesburg, Kan., who sells semen for breeding, has been freezing semen from some clones of an Oklahoma bull named Full Flush... He said that this year alone he sold $100,000 worth of semen from Full Flush, enough to inseminate 2,000 cows."
In 2008, Coover, told the Washington Post that it "is a fairy tale that this technology is not being used and is not already in the food chain."
This is not the first time the FDA has released a report on the safety of cloned meat for human consumption. In reaction to a report released in December 2006, A poll, reported by ABC news, stated 65 percent said the cloning is morally wrong.
Because of the findings of the report, The FDA is not requiring special labeling on food derived from cloned animals or their offspring.
In Europe, the European Food Safety Authority has released a public consultation on the issue of cloned meat and milk in the food supply. The EFSA states on their website, "the ESFA recognises that the issue of animal cloning raises ethical, moral and other societal issues beyond its remit... At this stage, EFSA has not finalised its scientific opinion on the implications of animal cloning on food safety, animal health and welfare and the environment."
The draft opinion is a call to scientists to contribute their findings to support or refute the information before February 25th, 2008. The results of their findings will be available at earliest by May 2008.
Commentary:
Of course this is frightening. Cloned meat may have been in our food chain since 2003 or earlier. Many of us know this already. Some don't.
I guess it is good for vegans and raw foodies, who don't succumb to carnivorous impulses, but for anyone else, it's an issue that definitely needs to be addressed.
What is most ominous about this entire issue, is that there are insiders who've been aware of this all along. Just like anything, there are people in the know and people on out outside looking in. Now, I don't think there's anything wrong with some people knowing things and others not.
What I think is wrong is that since possibly the beginning of the decade, according to Mr. Coover, cloned meats were in our food chain without complete study and relatively skimpy reports. A somewhat dangerous predicament.
Now, 5 years after Coover was on the record for saying that he makes a decent chunk of change peddling cloned bovine semen, there's finally a 968 page report. This type of practice is what creates mistrust and harm, regardless of the findings after the fact.
But all this is moot. I don't believe it's right or safe to clone cows or anything else in the first place. Stop messing with what is and let's fix what we're broken already.
That's the real issue here.

| You're Thinking Yourself Unhealthy - An Interesting Approach to Effective Weight Loss |
| By Kevin Gianni |
| Wednesday, Oct 03, 2007 11:45 |
| What you're thinking about right now is stopping you from reaching your health and fitness goals and definitely effective weight loss.
Here's why...
Annmarie and I were in Boulder last night and stopped in the Boulder Book Store after dinner.
To our surprise Dr. Richard Moss was speaking--he's written a book called "The Mandala of Being" (He tenatively agreed to a teleseminar with me, so stay tuned!)
We don't get these big names back at the Borders in Danbury, and plus Ann and I thought it was a bit syncronistic that we decided to go to the bookstore in the first place, so we decided to stay for his talk.
It was incredible.
Dr. Moss speaks about the power of the moment. About the being in the present and what happens when you slip out into the past, future or into your own ego.
Of course, I wanted to know how you or I could make "staying in the now" a practice--one that could help with you health, wellness and success goals.
So here's what I've come up with...

Many people relate their health and fitness goals to a moment in the past when they were healthier, happier or thinner.
I would love it if someone would give me a dollar for every time I've heard someone say "I want to be the weight I was in 10th grade." :-)
Not because it's not possible, but because you are not what you were in the past anymore. That moment is gone and you'll never return to the same circumstance.
The challenge with wanting something in your past is that you're not accepting who you are right now.
If you're always dreaming about how you looked in your football uniform or cheerleading outfit and remenicing about how easy it was back then to stay in shape, then you're not doing yourself any good. You're not taking responisibility for you who are right now.
Jack Canfield, in his book "The Success Principles," says the first step to achieving anything is 100% responsibility. This means bringing yourself into the now and accepting everything that has come to you.
If you're sick right now, then you're sick. If you're fat, you're fat. If you're tired, you're tired. Accepting this will allow you to make a change in the now.
This is the trick... if you accept it, then you can take action on it.
The only thing you actually can control is the now, right? You can't change what you ate for dinner last night, so why feel guilty about it?
Reminicing or beating yourself up about the past takes attention away from the now, when you actually can start taking action on your new vision of health.
Look, I want you to be healthy, happy and incredibly energetic. This is why I write to you every week.
I want you to take a minute right now and just accept who you are. Chances are there's something in your life, that you're not happy with. That's OK.
Accept it, take 100% responsibility for it and then realize that you--by being in the now--have the control to change anything you're unhappy about.
If you're feeling like you need help prioritizing your health goals, head on over to our site and get our book, we'll help you take action like you've never before and skyrocket your success... don't believe me? We have a 100% gaurantee!

| Health Benefits of Cinnamon - One of My Favorite Herbs! |
| By Kevin Gianni |
| Saturday, Sep 22, 2007 11:35 |
| Here are 4 health benefits of cinnamon as well as a few resources for you...
Since some of you will be eating some incredible homemade pumpkin pies in the upcoming months, I wanted to talk a little about one of my favorite herbs...
Cinnamon.
Here are four incredible facts about cinnamon that I recently came across--as well as some simple ways you can bring it into your diet.
1. Some studies suggest that cinnamon can help regulate blood sugar which is great news for those who are eating too much white sugar, candies, sugary drinks and flour. The herb, of course, doesn't counteract the damage that can be done by these *food* items, but it will help mildly. :-)
2. Cinnamon can lower LDL cholesterol. (which if too high can damage health) Just 1/2 a tablespoon a day!
4. Cinnamon fights the formation of e-coli bacteria in unpasteurized juices.
Here are some cinnamon suggestions (make sure you get organic!)...
1. Add a stick to your water for an incredible taste. Recycle the stick for a few glasses then use a new one.
2. Add it to juices and smoothies for flavor and to delay the formation of bacteria.
3. Use it in recipes. Many ethnic dishes contain cinnamon that taste amazing.
Let me know how it goes!

| Magically Transform Your Health with this Weight Loss Motivation Technique |
| By Kevin Gianni |
| Tuesday, Sep 11, 2007 09:32 |
| This might be the shortest posting on weight loss motivation you ever get from me... (I've been known to be long-winded, yes?!)
Today is an amazing day!
Why? Because I want it to be. :-)
It's raining, it's a little chilly, I have about 100 things I NEED to do before the end of the week. But guess what. Today is totally awesome!
I want you to feel the same way.
Maybe you weigh a few extra pounds, maybe you're suffering from a disease, maybe your relationships stink. I can't even list all the things that could be bringing you down.
What I want you to do is take one of these issues and flip it around. (It takes 1 minute, so you definitely have the time!)
How do you do that?
It's easy...
Just insert the thing that's bothering you into this sentence...
"(INSERT ISSUE) is the best thing that's happened to me!"
So for example, if you just ate 16 Oreo cookies and feel horrible about it, say...
"Eating those Oreo cookies was the best thing that's ever happened to me!"
Say it 10 times in a row out loud and something magical will happen.

Special Announcement from Kevin Gianni:

****************************************
You'll actually start to believe it. And you'll feel better.
I know you're focusing on getting and staying healthy, but guess what... you can't be healthy if you don't feel good about yourself.
Feel Good = Healthy
It's simple math.
Guess it wasn't that short of a posting... ;-)
Do it now. And forward this to a friend who might need a little self TLC.

| Why Diet Blogging Could Sabatoge Your Weight Loss Motivation |
| By Kevin Gianni |
| Thursday, Dec 28, 2006 07:35 |
| I've seen a rise in the popularity of diet blogging in the last few years.
Recently I read an inquiry from a reporter about them and I had these thoughts about it.
If you're a diet blogger, please pay attention!
I feel the reason people diet blog is so that they have the possibility of 1000s of people holding them accountable. Similar to the weight loss reality TV shows. If you knew 1,000,000 people were watching, you'd probably make sure you kept on the straight and narrow.
But this could be a serious detriment to your weight loss motivation if the plan doesn't go as you hoped...
Here's what a diet blogger needs to do to make their blog successful.
1. Because of what I mentioned above, a diet blogger has to be aware that while many people might see the blog, there's no promise that people will be there to support them or even care enough to post. This could create a sense of failure, where there really isn't any at all.
2. If you're diet blogging, you should consider joining a community of blogs. There are many places where you can blog, but you'll be successful if you're in a group of blogs where everyone is trying to lose weight. Results come with support groups and the more people you have cheering you on the better.
3. Make a habit of posting but not a habit of getting on the scale. One of the most telling habit of people who lose weight is that they stop focusing on the weight loss and start focusing on the other benefits of the process like better stamina, more energy, less aches and pains.
Hope this helps!
